The main shaft drives the billet and the mold core to rotate, and then applies pressure to the rotating billet by a rotary wheel. Due to the rotary motion of the spindle of the Metal Spinning Machine and the longitudinal and lateral feed motion of the tool, this local plastic deformation gradually extends to the entire blank, thereby obtaining hollow rotating body parts of various shapes.
Metal spinning is mostly used for forming open-shaped workpieces, that is, the diameter of the forming end is larger than the diameter of other parts, so that the spinning formed part can be removed from the core. If a closed-shape workpiece is needed, the workpiece needs to be spin-formed in blocks, and the parts are welded together to form the desired shape.
Ideal spinning materials include aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, silver, and mild steel. Anneal the workpiece before spinning. If the workpiece undergoes large deformation during processing, two to three times of annealing treatment may be required before the spinning is completed. Metal spinning is usually performed under computer numerical control, which is also called CNC spinning.

The characteristics of spinning are: a large workpiece can be formed with a small deformation force; the mold is simple, only a core mold is required, and the material requirements are low. However, ordinary spinning machines are only suitable for small batch production, because they have to be operated manually, so they have greater limitations, low productivity, and are more dangerous than CNC.
Spinning can use special machinery, using profiled spinning and digitally controlled spinning. The process of thinning the plate thickness while spinning is called thinning spinning, also known as strong spinning. It is mostly used for processing tapered parts, thin-walled tubular parts, etc., and can also be used to spin large diameter Tube, and then cut into flat plates.
